Should Off-Court Antics Affect Professional Athletes Eligibility To Play?

mike vickIt’s no surprise that those with money are often under the spotlight because of their abilities. Each and every move they make is documented by pesky TMZ reporters and is on the web in a matter of seconds.  With that being said we have those who don’t shine so brightly when the floodlight is upon them. Do the names of Burress, Vick, and more recently Kidd ring a bell to anyone? It’s understood that we’ve all done things that wouldn’t have the “make momma proud” effect on our caregivers but, being under the Sauron eye of the public should make these so-called role models make more astute decisions of their behavior. Which posed a question to me, should their off-court antics affect their eligibility to play? (more…)

San Francisco 49ers Young Athletic Talent Takes Top Honors As Brand Affinity Technologies (BAT) ‘Rising Sports Stars’

collin kaepernickIRVINE, Calif.—December 3, 2012— The impressive performances of San Francisco 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick and Aldon Smith have not only wowed the crowds at Candlestick Park, but have landed them in the top five of Brand Affinity Technologies (BAT) ‘Rising Sports Stars’ List for December. Calculated monthly, the ‘Rising Sports Stars’ List measures the U.S. athletes with the most significant leap in popularity during the previous 30 days, which could generate huge fan and advertising followings.

With the talents of Kaepernick and Smith, San Francisco is in scoring distance of another championship prize, this time in football. Along with the 49ers’ players, Jacksonville Jaguars’ Cecil Shorts and Dallas Cowboys’ Dez Bryant also made it onto BAT’s top five, as they are both on pace to reach their first 1000-yard receiving seasons, respectively. Rounding out the Top Five is Greg Monroe, of the Detroit Pistons, who has everybody talking with his outstanding early season play on both sides of the floor.

Is Roger Goodell Good For The NFL?

NFL Commissioner Is there any question Roger Goodell is the most powerful man in sportsnf? The National Football League, for which he is the Commissioner, is the most successful professional sports league in the world, and enjoys television ratings second to none.

Much of this can be credited to Goodell, who took the reins of the NFL just ahead of the opening kickoff for the 2006 season. So why do some players insist he’s terrible for the NFL? In short, it’s the classic, age-old battle between labor and management.

The National Football League is a private organization in which the interests of the league’s 32 team-owners are represented by Goodell, while the interest of the players, as members of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), are represented by NFLPA President Domonique Foxworth and selected player-reps from various teams. 2012 NFL Player Props | Top 10 value picks

calvin johnson

These picks are far from locks but if you are looking for value then you’re in the right spot.

10. 2012 NFL MVP – Odds to Win | Arian Foster 15/1

I think the Texans will be a team to watch this year; they have a great defense and Andre Johnson is healthy, for now. Arian Foster is arguably the most dynamic running back in football and if he ends up putting up the numbers like he did in 2010 (2,220 total yards and 12 total TDS) the Texans may very well make the playoffs, and Foster the MVP.

9. Who will lead the league in Receiving Yards? | Brandon Marshall 16/1

He’s not the number one value pick for this category, but he has great potential and even better odds. In his last season playing with Jay Cutler (2008) Marshall recorded 104 catches and 1,265 yards, good for 3rd and 7th respectively. I expect Marshall to have a huge year and it could earn you some nice green. (more…)
